Medicare Part A
Hospital Insurance
What it covers:

- • Skilled nursing facility care
- • Hospice care
- • Some home health care
Cost:
Most people pay $0 premium for Part A if they or their spouse worked and paid Medicare taxes for at least 10 years.
Medicare Part B
Medical Insurance
What it covers:
- • Doctor visits and outpatient care
- • Preventive services and screenings
- • Mental health services
- • Durable medical equipment
Cost:
Standard premium is $185/month in 2025. Higher-income beneficiaries pay more (IRMAA).
Medicare Part C
Medicare Advantage
What it covers:
- • All Part A and Part B benefits
- • Usually includes Part D drug coverage
- • Often includes dental, vision, hearing
- • Extra benefits vary by plan
Cost:
Premiums vary by plan — many have $0 monthly premiums. Offered by private insurers.
Medicare Part D
Prescription Drug Plans
What it covers:
- • Brand-name prescription drugs
- • Generic prescription drugs
- • Specialty medications (with cost-sharing)
- • Vaccines and preventive drugs
Cost:
Premiums vary by plan. Average around $40–$60/month. Late enrollment penalty applies if you delay.
